Junior Chapel for Uni-Kids is run on several Sundays each month (see the Services Diary for dates). Children leave after the second hymn to do their own activites. To give you an idea of the range of our activities here are the things we did last year:
Uni-Kids2010
In January we celebrated the Charles Darwin Bi-Centenary with a visit to the Doncaster Dome and the Walking with Dinosaurs exhibition along with young Unitarians from chapels in Wakefield and Doncaster. In February (and again in October) we took part in the national Junior Weekend at Great Hucklow in Derbyshire with young Unitarians aged 8-11 from all over Britain.
Activities covered during the rest of the past year included Daniel and the Lions Den, nature walk with scavenger hunt, Easter arts and crafts, Mothers Day and Fathers Day, Remembrance Day stories, and famous Unitarians (PT Barnum and Elizabeth Blackwell).
During the autumn we took flowers and plants as our theme, collecting samples and pressing them to make laminated pictures and talked about the flowers of the Middle East that were represented in the Bible. We also talked about our concept of the Garden of Eden, drew pictures of what we thought it could look like and then included these into the giant wall mural that is just being finished off in the new Junior Chapel room (see pic).
The Future
In 2011 we are planning to finish off our work on flowers and plants we are shortly to start work on the small garden space at the back of the Chapel building - deciding which vegetables, flowers and herbs to plant. Come and join us and tell us what you would like to plant !
